After 27 years of service and leadership, June 1, 2012 marked Al Stubblefield’s transition to President of BLG and President Emeritus of Baptist Health Care.  As the leader of BLG, Al shares his experiences taking Baptist from single digit patient satisfaction scores to the Malcolm Baldrige Award, and what it takes to create and sustain Leadership Courage and Workforce Trust with partner hospitals and health systems across the country.  He leads our team of experts as we coach and teach partners how to develop a high performing, patient centered culture where you reach your goals and sustain your outcomes, regardless of the challenges of our constantly evolving industry. On September 9, 2013 BLG became a HealthStream company.

Prior to this role, Al served as president and CEO of Baptist Health Care, Northwest Florida’s largest health system, from 1999 to 2012.  During his tenure, BHC received numerous accolades including being awarded the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2003.  For six consecutive years, Baptist Health Care was named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in America by Fortune Magazine.  2012 marked the 11th year running that Training Magazine has named BHC to its prestigious Top 125 List in recognition of the organization’s commitment to workforce development.  Training Magazine also featured Al as one of the 11 "CEO’s that Get It" because of BHC’s unrelenting commitment to training, and in 2004 he was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Health Care.

During his tenure as COO of Baptist Health Care, Al realized that change was necessary for the organization to succeed in its highly competitive marketplace. He established a common vision that would alter the culture of the organization, providing a case study of the improvement process used to become an Employer of Choice™, a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award winner, and the recipient of other accolades. Al’s book, The Baptist Health Care Journey to Excellence: Creating a Culture that WOWs! shares the steps taken and the tools used to turn Baptist into a world-class organization.
 
Before coming to Baptist Hospital, Al worked in hospitals in Mississippi and Tennessee. He has served in multiple roles for the American Hospital Association, including being a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Chairman of the Operations Committee and Chairman of the Regional Policy Board 4. He serves on the Board and Executive Committee of VHA Southeast, the Hospital Research and Educational Trust, the CEO Advisory Board of the Governance Institute, and the Institute of Healthcare Executives and Suppliers.
 
He is currently serving on the VHA & FHA Board of Trustees, is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has served on the board of Florida Hospital Association and is former Chairman of the Association of Voluntary Hospitals of Florida.

He is currently serving as Founding Chairman of SmartMarket Board, a for profit subsidiary of American Hospital Association. 

He received a Master of Science degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned his bachelor's degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi.
